Away from the crowds and bustle of the tourist centres on the Algarve coastline, Alcoutim is a paradise of serenity between the Serra do Caldeirão and the Guadiana River, a natural border with Spain. The town of Alcoutim is the capital of the municipality with only 3 770 inhabitants subdivided into 5 parishes - Alcoutim, Pereiro, Giõies, Martinlongo and Vaqueiros. The region keeps its handicraft very much alive. Eminently associated with rural life, it includes work pieces ranging from the traditional wooden or rag blankets, to cane and wicker basketry, pottery, embroidery, linen tablecloths, maize straw floral arrangements, jute dolls and much more. Game, pork, lamb and river fish are the mainstay of a rich and diversified gastronomy, where the delicious confectionery stands out, as it reveals, in no small measure, the profusion of honey, figs and almonds in Algarve.
It was a pleasure - the driver was in the airport when we arrived, and drove us to our hotel.
Faultless service on time and friendly.
